The School of Food and Environment was founded based on the disciplines of Chemical Engineering & Technology (with a subordinate discipline of Doctoral degree in Biochemistry), Chemistry and Environmental Science & Engineering (first-level discipline of doctoral degree), Biology (first-level discipline of Master’s degree), the discipline of Crop Genetics & Breeding (subordinate discipline of Doctoral degree) and other disciplines in Ecology and Food Science & Engineering etc. Emerging from the first-level discipline of Environmental Science & Engineering, the School now offers a subordinate discipline of Doctoral degree in Ecology.
The School of Food and Environment exploits local flora and other natural resources by conducting research in Botany, Modern Biotechnology and Plant Genetic Modification, Wetland Ecology, Ocean Ecology, River Ecology, Agricultural and Aquatic Products Processing, Food Safety, among others. The School also established the Collaborative Innovation Center of Agricultural Processing & Food as the base for academic education and scientific research. In addition, the discipline of Biology and the discipline of Crop Science were migrated from the Main Campus in Dalian to the Panjin campus. By collaborating with local competitive industry organizations, it is believed that these two disciplines will continue to improve and achieve positive outcomes at Panjin campus. In the future the school shall seek to further improve the Ecology and Food science disciplines to a leading international standard.
There are two majors in this school: 1.Environmental and Ecological Engineering 2.Food Science and Engineering
