In the afternoon of December 7th, the 3rd Students International Exchange Sharing Session was held successfully at the Auditorium of G01 Administrative Service Building. Li Chengen, Deputy Secretary of DUT Party Committee and Secretary of the Party Committee of Panjin Campus, Yu Xiao and Li Gang, the Vice Director of the Office of Panjin Campus, Zhang Xiujuan, the Vice Director of Division of Research Affairs, as well as the teachers and students attended this activity.
Li Chengen delivered an opening speech. He summarized the cooperation between Panjin Campus and overseas universities, and introduced the actuality of students’ international exchange. He stated that Panjin Campus always adheres to the “internationalization” policy, open to the world and strives to carry out a wide range of students exchange programs abroad and overseas. He pointed out that the modernization of the country needs international talents, hoping that students could make full use of the platforms created by the university to see the world and know the world. By participating in the international exchange programs, students would expand horizons, increase knowledge and improve quality. He also stressed that college students should promote the national spirit, adhere to the national soul and carry forward the national pride. Finally, Li Chengen affirmed the significance of this activity, and presented good wishes to the students.
Afterwards, eight outstanding students who had the experiences of studying overseas shared their exchange stories, inspirations and gains, including short-term visits, school year exchange, CSC programs and joint educational programs, covering the UK, USA, Ireland, Canada, Germany, Japan, Korea, Hong Kong and Taiwan. Eight students gave a detailed and comprehensive introduction to the selection process, preparation, overseas universities, study and research, after-school activities, scholarship applications, social part-time,etc. They vividly told the unique customs and cultural practices, and shared the valuable experience and harvest growth. The participants showed the differences in education and culture between China and other countries/regions through their own experiences. They encouraged students to actively participate in international exchange programs, feel the colorful youth and experience the colorful world. They expressed their sincere gratitude to Panjin Campus. During the sharing period, the hosts also introduced the ways of getting the information of international exchange programs.
In the Q&A part, Zhang Xiujuan patiently and detailedly answered the questions the students cared about. She shared with the students the latest progress in the friendly cooperation between Panjin campus and overseas universities, and gave students the advice and guidance for studying overseas.
This sharing session made the teachers and students further understand the students international exchange programs and their study life overseas, know about the culture and customs of different countries and regions, encourage more students to go overseas and broaden their horizons. In the past three years, Panjin campus has established close relationships with the Imperial College of Technology, the University of Edinburgh, the University of Manchester, Loughborough University, the University of California at Riverside, the University of Ottawa, the Royal Institute of Technology, University College Cork, Waseda University, Tokyo Institute of Technology, Kyushu Institute of Technology, Japan Saga University, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Taiwan University, Taiwan University of Science and Technology and many other first-class universities to establish inter-school cooperation projects. A total of 349 students were sent to visit and study overseas, and 72 students have already been approved to begin their overseas trip.
