From October 27th to 28th, the 4th Dalian University of Technology-Tohoku University Joint Symposium was held in Panjin campus. The main topic is “Chemical Challenges in Environment, Biomedicine, and Materials Science & Technology”. Professor Yamaguchi Masahiko--the minister of the Department of Medicine attended this symposium as well as another 10 teachers from the Tohoku University. This symposium was jointly organized by the school of petroleum and chemical engineering, school of food and environment, school of life and medical science, and the division of research affairs. The vice president of DUT and the director of the Panjin Campus Prof. Lu Zhongchang attended this symposium and gave an open speech. President Lu introduced the development of the Panjin campus, and reviewed the cooperation and deep friendship between the two universities. President Lu also expressed the willingness of expanding the areas and ways of cooperation with each other for promoting the internationalization process of the two universities.

The topic of this symposium was “Chemical Challenges in Environment, Biomedicine, and Materials Science & Technology”. It involved six lectures. 23 academic reports were given by the well-known professors and representatives of graduate students. It showed the latest research achievements in various fields, including the organic chemistry, environmental chemistry, pharmacy and so on. More than a hundred teachers and students of relative majors attended the lectures, and had a heated discussion with the speakers in an active atmosphere.

At the end of the Joint Symposium, Professor Masahike Yamaguchi delivered the closing address. He said he was impressed by this high-level successful symposium. He would like to thank the leaders and Conference Committee of Panjin Campus for their exquisite planning and organizing. Additionally, Professor Masahike Yamaguchi said the success of the seminar would boost the cooperation between Dalian University of Technology and Tohoku University, strengthen the bilateral academic exchange, and promote the interdepartmental communication. He would look forward to the next symposium and warmly invite our delegation to visit Tohoku University.

After the symposium, the Tohoku University delegation visited our campus. Moreover, the representatives from both sides had an in-depth exchange of views and took photos for memory.
